Processing and Conversion

Conversion process research is developing technologies and processes to effectively convert a wide range of Washington-based biomass feedstocks to products and fuels. "Washington State's 250,000 dairy cows could, through anaerobic digestion of their manure, produce 50 megawatts of electricity as well as other valuable co-products."-WSU's Anaerobic Digestion Team
Dr. Shulin Chen and the Digester

Biomass Inventory

WSU's Department of Biological Systems Engineering and the Washington Department of Ecology completed a statewide inventory that estimated, by county, the source and amount of biomass available for potential conversion to biofuels. This inventory provides the state with the timely information necessary to develop a comprehensive biofuels strategy.
